Properly sizing a generator can be difficult. We understand that not everyone's energy needs are the same. Just because your neighbor has a 20 kW diesel generator does not mean you need a 20 kW as well.
For example, if you have a shop with 240V equipment, you will definitely need a bigger generator. Also, keep in mind that most 240V equipment will surge and therefore have a higher starting draw than its running draw. This means that even though your AC unit is rated at 3500 watts, it might need 9000 watts to start so a 5 kW generator will not be able to start your AC unit.
